* England spinner Monty Panesar was mugged outside the Wanderers cricket ground in Johannesburg in January 2009.
* Ian Botham’s daughter and South African cricket personality Gerald de Kock were mugged along Marine Drive in 2004 in Cape Town while taking a walk.
* Two members of the Pakistani cricket team were mugged and beaten outside their hotel in Sandton in 1998. The incident left paceman Mohammed Akram out of the first Test against South Africa.
